Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp held a telephone conversation with Iran’s top diplomat Seyed Abbas Araghchi during which the two sides discussed bilateral relations as well as regional and international developments.

During the conversation, Veldkamp voiced concern about the escalation of tensions in the region and stressed the need to resolve disputes through diplomatic means.

He also called for Iran to help ensure international maritime security in the Red Sea.

Iran's foreign minister, in turn, reaffirmed the Islamic Republic's resolve to pursue its peaceful nuclear program in accordance with international law. He said the Islamic Republic of Iran is ready for indirect negotiations in a bona fide fashion and on an equal footing, which requires a constructive atmosphere and avoiding such tactics as threatening, intimidation and blackmailing.

Araghchi described the threatening remarks by US officials against Iran as unacceptable and contrary to the principles of the UN Charter and international law, saying they will only further complicate the situation.

He warned that the Islamic Republic of Iran will respond swiftly and decisively to any aggression against its territorial integrity, sovereignty and national interests.

Araghchi reminded all UN members of their responsibility to uphold the rule of law at the international level and criticized the European Union for its failure to oppose the provocative rhetoric of US officials, which undoubtedly threatens international peace and security
