Senior advisor to Iranian FM meets with Syrian president

Ali Asghar Khaji, a senior adviser to Iran’s foreign minister, who is at the head of a delegation in Damascus, met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Monday.
In the meeting, Khaji and Assad discussed the latest developments in bilateral and regional relations. 

While referring to the successful presidential elections in Iran, Assad stated that in his telephone conversation with Iran’s President-elect Masoud Pezeshkian, the two sides underlined the need to expand strategic relations between Tehran and Damascus.

He also outlined the latest developments in Syria, noting that his country is ready for targeted talks with Turkey.

The senior adviser to Iran’s foreign minister welcomed the recent moves regarding the resolution of the Syrian-Turkish disputes. Khaji said the Islamic Republic of Iran supports these talks. He also underscored the need to take measures to make the necessary arrangements for the talks to be fruitful.

Khaji spoke about the process of boosting stability and security in Syria and the failure of Western policies to politically isolate the Arab country.
