In their telephone conversation on Monday Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and the European Union Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell discussed the latest key issues in the region and the world as well as Iran’s ties with the EU.

In their telephone conversation on Monday, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and the European Union Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell discussed the latest key issues in the region and the world as well as Iran’s ties with the EU.

The two sides underlined the need for the continuation of talks and contacts between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the EU for the purpose of removing the anti-Iran sanctions.

Referring to the current situation in Gaza and the shocking reports of the execution of Palestinians in Shifa Hospital there and the massacre of women and children by the Zionist regime’s army, Amirabdollahian said that unfortunately, Netanyahu has taken the Gaza case and even the national interests of the United States hostage for his own interests.

The Iranian foreign minister added that the continuation of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the Israeli regime’s move to starve the people of the region has turned the situation there into the "real crisis of the century".

The top Iranian diplomat appreciated Borrell's view regarding the necessity of stopping the war and sending immediate humanitarian aid to Gaza.

While pointing to the responsibility of the international community and the European Union with regard to the Palestinian issue, Amirabdollahian said it is time for punitive measures against the Israeli regime and for the formation of an international inquiry into its crimes including the hybrid crimes at Gaza’s Shifa Hospital.

The Iranian foreign minister further referred to Josep Borrell's diplomatic efforts to help end the Gaza crisis but criticized the double standards of the West towards Palestine and Ukraine.

Amirabdollahian cited the continued arms sales by the United States and some European countries to the Zionist regime for genocide in Gaza, along with the demonstration of the show of humanitarian aid deliveries, as an example of this contradictory approach.

He underlined that the Islamic Republic of Iran has adopted a clear stance on regional issues from the beginning and it has clearly stated that resorting to war is not the solution.

Amirabdollahian then called the repetition of claims about the sending of Iranian weapons for use against Ukraine as “a boring and baseless story”.

The Iranian foreign minister further referred to the continuous talks between EU Coordinator for the sanctions removal talks Mr. Mora and Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri.

He said the Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to continue constructive cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, IAEA, and in return, it seriously expects the western sides to fulfil their obligations regarding the nuclear negotiations aimed at lifting the sanctions.

EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell also congratulated the Iranian foreign minister on the arrival of the holy month of Ramadan and the Persian New Year.

Borrell stated that the conclusion of the nuclear negotiations is still one of the top priorities of the EU and underscored the necessity of continuing the sanctions lifting talks.

On the issue of Palestine, he spoke about the EU’s plan to continue sending humanitarian aid into Gaza and support the actions of UNRWA and also support the efforts of the UN and its secretary general to establish a permanent ceasefire in the region and cooperate with the officials of the Palestinian Authority.

Borrell opposed Israel's threats to attack Rafah and criticized the Zionist regime's policy of starving civilians.

He described Iran’s regional role as important and called for Tehran's continued efforts to reduce tensions in the West Asian region.

In their telephone conversation, Amirabdollahian and Borrell discussed some issues of mutual interest between Iran and the EU, including consular affairs.
