Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, the United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, who is visiting Tehran for consultations with Iranian officials regarding developments in Lebanon, met with Iran’s foreign minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi.

During the Tuesday meeting, Araghchi outlined the Islamic Republic of Iran’s principled, steadfast, and resolute policy in support of the Lebanese government, people, and resistance.
He expressed satisfaction with the completion of Lebanon’s political process and the election of a new president through a national consensus, with the effective participation of all political factions. He emphasized the importance of preserving this atmosphere of national understanding during the formation of the new government.

The Iranian Foreign Minister highlighted the parallels between Lebanon’s current situation and the period following the 33-day war and the 2006 Israeli aggression. Despite the Zionist regime’s acts of aggression and heinous crimes, he noted that Hezbollah has maintained and even strengthened its presence and influence as a deeply rooted and powerful force within Lebanon’s landscape.

Describing the repeated violations of the ceasefire by the Zionist regime as highly dangerous, Araghchi stressed the urgent need for the United Nations to play an active and effective role in pressuring Israel to halt its aggressions, immediately withdraw from Lebanese occupied territories, and expedite the facilitation of humanitarian aid deliveries to displaced persons while supporting the reconstruction of damaged areas.

The UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon provided an update on her recent regional and international consultations and underscored the importance of Iran’s continued active and constructive role in ensuring lasting stability and security in Lebanon and the wider region.

Hennis-Plasschaert expressed hope that with the commitment of all parties to the ceasefire agreement, conditions would be set for achieving lasting security and stability, facilitating humanitarian assistance for displaced persons, and advancing the reconstruction of war-affected areas.
