Iranian British FMs meet on sidelines of UN General Assembly

The foreign ministers of Iran and Britain discussed bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues.
The Iranian foreign minister described the insecurity in the region and the Strait of Hormuz as a consequence of the US-Israeli military aggression, which was carried out with the support and backing of some European countries and had caused extensive damage to Iran, the region and the world.
The foreign minister said lasting stability and security in the region depended on ending the occupation and ensuring the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, particularly their right to self-determination. He recalled that the British government and some other European governments must be held accountable for the role they have played in the emergence and continuation of an occupying and terrorist regime in West Asia.
Araghchi called for a correction of the destructive and irresponsible approaches adopted by some European governments toward Iran and regional developments, stressing that insisting on interference in the internal affairs of countries and the instrumental use of human rights concepts is in no way acceptable.
Araghchi described the continued comprehensive military and political support provided by Britain and some other European countries as a major factor contributing to the escalation of the occupying regime’s crimes against the Palestinian people and the countries of the region. He stressed that Britain and other countries are obligated under relevant international treaties to take action to prosecute and punish officials of the Israeli regime for genocide and war crimes.
The foreign minister also stressed Iran’s responsible approach to using the potential of diplomacy to resolve issues related to Iran’s peaceful nuclear program, noting that the three European countries must be held accountable for following the United States’ illegal actions regarding the snapback mechanism and for failing to take a firm position against the US and Israeli military aggression against Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities.
The foreign ministers of Iran and Britain also discussed bilateral relations and diplomatic and consular consultations between the two countries.
