Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and Mohamad Hasan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, met today, Thursday, on the sidelines of the BRICS foreign ministers' meeting in New Delhi, and discussed bilateral relations, regional developments, and the latest situation following the recent war.

In this meeting, while elaborating on the latest developments regarding the imposed war and the ceasefire, the Iranian Foreign Minister described the recent forty-day war as an important turning point in the developments of the West Asia region and said: "Today, the countries of the region have realized more than ever that regional security is an interconnected whole, the fate of all countries in the region is interdependent, and one cannot rely on the US and the Israeli regime to provide regional security."

Araghchi also expressed gratitude for the positions of the Malaysian government and people regarding the imposed war against Iran, especially the condemnation of the killing of schoolchildren in Minab.

Referring to the situation of the Strait of Hormuz, the Iranian Foreign Minister stated: "Prior to February 28, 2026, the Strait of Hormuz was completely open and secure, and the Islamic Republic of Iran and Oman, as the coastal states, were providing various free services including navigation services, maritime safety, and environmental monitoring to passing ships. However, the illegal aggression by the US and the Zionist regime has led to considerations regarding new mechanisms in this regard."

The Malaysian Foreign Minister, referring to his country's consistently positive and friendly relations with the government and people of the Islamic Republic of Iran, emphasized: "Malaysia has always opposed the use of force in international relations, contrary to the UN Charter, and has consistently stressed the need to provide the necessary space for diplomacy and dialogue."

The two sides also emphasized the continuation of consultations and the expansion of bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
