Telephone conversation between Foreign Ministers of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Vietnam
.
Le Hoai Trung, the Foreign Minister of Vietnam, held a telephone conversation with Seyed Abbas Araghchi, the Foreign Minister of Iran, to discuss and exchange views on regional developments and bilateral relations.
Vietnam's Foreign Minister, referring to the message of condolences from his country's president following the martyrdom of the Supreme Leader, expressed the condolences and sympathy of the Vietnamese government and people on the occasion of the martyrdom of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, several senior officials, and Iranian citizens.
Iran's Foreign Minister, while appreciating the Vietnamese government's messages of sympathy, informed his Vietnamese counterpart about the war crimes committed by the aggressors and the gross violations of human rights and humanitarian law — particularly the attacks on schools, universities, educational and research centers, historical and cultural sites, hospitals, vital and industrial infrastructure, as well as residential areas. He stated that in just one instance, during the aggressors' criminal attack on a school in the city of Minab, approximately 170 students and teachers were martyred.
Iran's Foreign Minister emphasized Iran's continued defense against the aggressors, including their military bases and facilities located in the territories of regional countries, and clarified: "The reason for Iran's defensive operations in the region is that the United States is using the territory, bases, and facilities in these countries to wage an illegal war against Iran. Iran's defensive operations are within the framework of the inherent right to self-defense and should not be regarded as a violation of the sovereignty of the host countries."
Araghchi stressed that the primary source of the insecurity imposed upon the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz is the US and Israeli military aggression against Iran. He added: "This waterway is closed to vessels belonging to parties involved in the military aggression against Iran, based on the principles of international law and in order to prevent the aggressors from exploiting the Strait of Hormuz to carry out illegal attacks against Iran. At the same time, vessels belonging to other countries are permitted to transit in coordination with the relevant Iranian authorities."
Vietnam's Foreign Minister, referencing the Vietnamese people's historical experience of defending their country against aggressors and occupiers, emphasized the necessity of respecting the political independence, national sovereignty, and territorial integrity of states, adhering to international law and the UN Charter, and rejected the use or threat of use of force.
Le Hoai Trung, expressing concern over the consequences of the continued war in the region, expressed hope that peace and stability would be established in the region as soon as possible.
