Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen held a phone conversation with her Iranian counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi, congratulating him on his appointment as the top Iranian diplomat. The two foreign ministers also discussed regional and international issues as well as bilateral ties.

Referring to the history of Iranians as a peace-loving nation, the Iranian foreign minister said the root cause of the crisis in the region is the war-mongering and genocide of the Zionist regime.

Araghchi spoke about the dual and contradictory approach of some European countries towards the crimes of the Israeli regime, saying it is regretful that despite the Zionist regime's heinous crimes and genocide against the Palestinian people and aggression against Lebanon, the European Union has taken no proper action to deal with law violations and crimes of the regime.

Ms. Elina Valtonen, in turn, expressed her concern about humanitarian disasters in the region and said she hopes peace and stability will be restored to West Asia as soon as possible. She noted that stopping the violence requires the continuation of talks between all parties.

During their telephone conversation, the foreign ministers of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Finland underscored the need to continue consultations aimed at expanding bilateral relations and strengthening consular cooperation.
