Iran FM and Indian National Security Advisor meet in Tehran
In a meeting with India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian emphasized the historical background of bilateral ties between the two countries, expressing hope that the Indian official’s trip to the Islamic Republic will create some strong momentum in the Tehran-New Delhi relations in strategic fields.

In a meeting with India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian emphasized the historical background of bilateral ties between the two countries, expressing hope that the Indian official’s trip to the Islamic Republic will create some strong momentum in the Tehran-New Delhi relations in strategic fields.
Amirabdollahian referred to the constructive talks between Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s summit in Samarkand. He further expressed pleasure with the planned finalization of Tehran’s membership in the SCO in its next meeting in New Delhi.
Amirabdollahian described the approaches of Iran and India to key international issues as important and voiced hope that the cooperation between the two nations regarding significant regional and international issues including the fight against terrorism and narco-trafficking will further expand.
The top Iranian diplomat then gave an assessment of the level of economic and trade cooperation between Iran and India despite the existing possibilities of the two sides. Amirabdollahian then called for boosting ties in those areas and said he is hopeful that the holding of a new round of joint economic commission sessions in Tehran will pave the way for generating fresh momentum.
India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval for his part referred to the international status quo and the developments that are unfolding in the international arena. He described as important, the existence of a broad range of areas in which Tehran and New Delhi can work together. Doval then stressed the necessity of putting in place a roadmap of cooperation between the two nations within the framework of a long-term partnership.
He described the transit cooperation between Iran and India as an important sphere in bilateral relations. The Indian security chief underlined the need to promote India's participation to finalize the country’s cooperation in Chabahar, which will bring about convergence of other countries in the Central Asian region and the Caucasus as well as Russia. In their meeting, Amirabdollahian and Doval also exchanged views over the joint work of Iran and India in Chabahar, bilateral banking issues, the sanctions removal talks and regional issues including the developments in Afghanistan.
