Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman condemns adoption of American resolution against Iran at UN Economic and Social Council
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani described the adoption of America’s non-consensual resolution against the Islamic Republic of Iran at the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) as a political scheme that lacks legal credibility, runs counter to the UN Charter and sets the wrong precedent in the international body, strongly condemning it.
Iran had twice earned a seat on the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in the course of the past 10 years (from 2011 until present), and it overwhelmingly won the body’s membership for a third time last year (with the votes of 43 out of the 54 ECOSOC members), Kanaani said, adding that America’s biased move against the Islamic Republic of Iran is an attempt aimed at imposing one-sided political demands on the country and disregarding election procedures at international institutions.
Removing a legal member of the CSW is a political heresy, rids the international organization of its credibility and sets a precedent unilaterally for future exploitations of the body, said the spokesman.
Kanaani said it is ridiculous that the fake Israeli regime is counted as a member of the Commission on the Status of Women despite its dark record of organized crimes committed against the oppressed Palestinian people with the support of the US and its lackeys.
The official referred to long-running and widespread attempts by the US at destabilizing Iran as well as the country’s role in blatant violations of the Iranian nation’s rights.
“How has a country which is itself a big violator of the rights of the Iranian nation and community of women and has spared no hostile action against the Iranian nation’s rights and interests since the Islamic Revolution now becomes a flag-bearer in supporting the rights of Iranian women?” he asked. “Undoubtedly, America cannot cover up its widespread violations of the rights of the Iranian nation, in general, and the Iranian women, in particular, with the imposition of unilateral sanctions through a smear campaign against the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
“The Islamic Republic of Iran has had great achievements in paving the way for women to make progress over the past 40 years since the victory of the Islamic Revolution, and undoubtedly the Iranian women will continue to tread the path of progress and development based on Iranian-Islamic values,” Kanaani said.
“We thank the 25 countries that did not support and did not vote ‘yes’ to the resolution in different manners. Without any doubt, America’s move is condemned and unacceptable in the eyes of the great Iranian nations, awakened consciences and the world’s independent governments,” he concluded.
