Iran condemns Germany UK for exploitatively using human rights mechanisms against Tehran
.
The spokesperson for Iran's Foreign Ministry, Esmail Baqaei, has expressed regret over the continued misuse of human rights mechanisms by the UK, Germany, and other Western countries to exert political pressure on developing nations.
He condemned the two countries for pushing for an anti-Iran resolution at the Human Rights Council, stating that the resolution lacks legal credibility due to the drafters' malicious intent, false claims, generalizations, and conclusions based on alleged violations, as well as contradictory and unsubstantiated allegations attributed to unnamed individuals.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson pointed to the track record of the UK, Germany, Canada, and other sponsors and supporters of the anti-Iran resolution over the past two years regarding various human rights atrocities in West Asia, particularly the genocide in Gaza and the crimes of the Zionist regime against the people in Lebanon and Syria.
He emphasized, “Neither the UK – which is itself one of the biggest political, financial, and military supporters of the Zionist regime and whose foreign minister has stated that proving genocide in Gaza requires the killing of millions – nor Germany – the second-largest supplier of weapons used in Israel’s genocide, the foreign minister of which has openly justified the killing of innocent Palestinian women and children – has any moral standing to lecture others on human rights.”
Baqaei highlighted the Islamic Republic of Iran’s principled approach to upholding human rights and fundamental freedoms in accordance with its constitution, national laws, and international treaties ratified by the Iranian government.
He stressed, “The Islamic Republic of Iran, as a governing system born from a popular revolution that derives its existence and authority from public support, spares no effort in protecting and promoting human rights, as well as identifying and addressing human rights violations, including through enacting appropriate laws and judicial proceedings.”
Baqaei also reiterated Iran’s continuous engagement with human rights mechanisms, including the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, to actively contribute to the advancement of global human rights norms at the international level.
He criticized the exploitative use of the Human Rights Council by certain Western countries, particularly the UK and Germany, to impose their political views against Iran, which undermines the council’s credibility and disrupts cooperative efforts among nations on human rights issues.
He called on the UK, Germany, and other Western sponsors of the anti-Iran resolution to prove their sincerity in expressing concern over Iran’s human rights situation by ending their compliance with US-led illegal and inhumane sanctions against the Iranian people, all of which constitute crimes against humanity
