Iranian Swiss foreign ministers meet in Geneva

The Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran Seyed Abbas Araghchi who has traveled to Switzerland to conduct a series of diplomatic talks and to hold the second round of indirect Iran-US nuclear negotiations met and held talks on Tuesday afternoon with his Swiss counterpart Ignazio Cassis.

The Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, who has traveled to Switzerland to conduct a series of diplomatic talks and to hold the second round of indirect Iran-US nuclear negotiations, met and held talks on Tuesday afternoon with his Swiss counterpart, Ignazio Cassis.

 

During the meeting, Iran’s foreign minister expressed appreciation for the Swiss government’s appropriate arrangements for hosting this round of Iran-US negotiations and briefed his Swiss counterpart on the discussions held over the past two days. 

 

He described the talks as very serious and focused, and stated that the two sides had generally reached an understanding on a set of guiding principles, on the basis of which the specific details in both the area of sanctions removal and nuclear issues will be drafted in subsequent sessions.

 

The two sides also exchanged views on regional and international developments, including the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and the continuation of the colonial genocide of Palestinians.

 

The foreign minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran emphasized the importance of all governments’ commitment to safeguarding the rule of law and the principles and norms of the United Nations Charter and international law, and warned about the consequences of the normalization of violations of international rules and norms.

 

Switzerland’s foreign minister expressed satisfaction that the indirect Iran-US negotiations were held in Geneva and underscored his country’s readiness to assist in any diplomatic process that would lead to a mutually acceptable solution to resolve Iran’s nuclear issue and prevent further escalation of tensions.
