Iran FM delivers speech at Baku State University

Araghchi spoke about the views of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding the importance of diplomacy and cooperation among governments for resolving international issues.

 

The Iranian foreign minister underlined the importance of diplomacy as a tool for securing countries’ national interests, and provided explanations about the prerequisites and requirements for the success and effectiveness of diplomacy. He emphasized that powerful and authoritative negotiation is itself a power-generating instrument for a country.

 

Araghchi stated that the current situation in international relations is influenced by the growing dominance of lawlessness by certain powers and the use of force to advance their foreign policy objectives. 

 

He noted that substituting the “rule of law” with a “rule of an imposed order” based on coercive force in no way ensures international peace and security, and merely leads to greater insecurity and a return to the law of the jungle.

 

Referring to the experience of the Iranian nation in its heroic defense of Iran’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity in June, the minister emphasized that the Iranian nation has shown that just as it negotiates with goodwill and self-confidence to secure the legitimate interests of the Iranian people, it is also firm and determined in defending its dignity and national interests, and will not hesitate in fighting to safeguard the sovereignty of Iran in the face of foreign aggression and invasion.

 

At the end of the session, the Iranian foreign minister unveiled the Azerbaijani translation of the book The Power of Negotiation and presented copies of the book as gifts to several professors and students attending the ceremony.
