UN Secretary General's Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg, who is in Tehran for consultations with Iranian officials, met with Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Saturday afternoon.

During the meeting, Araghchi condemned repeated US military attacks on various parts of Yemen, the killing of Yemeni civilians, and the destruction of homes and infrastructure in the country. He stressed that the US military aggression in

Yemen, coinciding with intensified genocidal actions by the Zionist regime in Gaza and its attacks on Lebanon and Syria, is merely another indication of US complicity in Israel's violations of international law and its alignment with the regime's destabilizing activities in the region.

Araghchi voiced regret over the US's unrealistic perception of the Yemeni people and the wider region, saying US policymakers must recognize that the root-cause of insecurity in the region is the ongoing occupation and genocide in occpied Palestine.

He added that the US cannot claim that it’s seeking to restore stability to the region by attacking Yemen and killing innocent Yemeni citizens whose only crime is showing solidarity with oppressed Palestinians.

He also criticized the UN Security Council's inaction regarding blatant violations of the UN charter and international law by the Israeli regime and the US, urging immediate and effective measures by the world body to halt these breaches and disrespect toward international norms.

Grundberg, for his part, congratulated Iran's foreign minister on the occasion of Nowruz and Eid al-Fitr, thanking Iran for its continued support for the UN efforts to push for peace in Yemen.

Meanwhile, Grundberg gave a report to Araghchi on his recent visit to Brussels and consultations with European Union officials and on the ongoing efforts by the UN to improve conditions in Yemen and restore peace and stability there.

Grundberg stressed that achieving peace and stability in Yemen is an urgent necessity not only for the Yemenis but also for the sake of regional security and stability.

He noted that the UN will use all its possibilities to attain that goal
