Iran Foreign Ministry Spokesman rejects EU officials claims as baseless
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmail Baqaei rejected the recent claims of the new European Union foreign policy chief and her spokesperson regarding the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmail Baqaei rejected the recent claims of the new European Union foreign policy chief and her spokesperson regarding the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Baqaei recommended them to understand the true meaning of concepts such as “threat” and “international peace and security” and refrain from distorting these terms.
Baqaei emphasized that the primary and persistent threat to global peace and security is the apartheid and occupying regime that possesses a stockpile of weapons of mass destruction. Over the past 15 months alone, this regime has carried out a ruthless genocide, killing more than 60,000 innocent people, committing the most heinous international crimes, and continuing its aggression and occupation.
The Foreign Ministry Spokesman stressed that the Ukraine crisis has no connection to Iran, adding the Islamic Republic of Iran has consistently emphasized the need to end the war and use diplomacy to settle disputes.
Baqaei said blame-shifting and accusing others cannot resolve the crises resulting from Europe’s own flawed policies.
Rejecting claims that Iran supports terrorism, he said the European Union must recognize that when some of its key members openly host terrorist groups and elements, it loses its moral standing to accuse others.
Baqaei went on to say that Interference in the internal affairs of other countries under deceptive pretexts, such as human rights, is unacceptable.
Human rights are a valuable heritage of humanity and should not be misused as a tool for political intervention.
While reaffirming that Iran’s nuclear program is entirely peaceful, Baqaei pointed out that Europe should remind itself that it lacked the will and independence to uphold the agreement it helped establish. With the U.S. withdrawal from the JCPOA, Europe failed to fulfill its commitments.
The Foreign Ministry Spokesman pointed out that if the European Union seeks to play an effective and constructive role on the international stage, it must adopt a realistic approach based on justice, respect for the rights of other nations, and adherence to the principles of the UN Charter and international law.
