Iran strongly condemns Zionist regime’s recent crimes in occupied Palestine, stresses need to maintain unity among Palestinian groups
The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Esmail Baqaei, strongly condemned on Wednesday the ongoing and intensified crimes by the Zionist regime against the oppressed people of Palestine in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank amid talks that are underway to stop the genocide.
Baqaei noted, “While the occupying regime has failed to achieve its declared goals of eliminating the resistance of the Palestinian nation against oppression and occupation over the past 16 months, it is now trying to portray itself as victorious by killing more women and children, destroying health infrastructure, mosques, and people's homes, martyring journalists and medical staff in the Gaza Strip, and suppressing, arresting, assassinating, and launching airstrikes in the West Bank.”
Referring to the killing of dozens of women and children during the brutal attacks of the occupying forces in various areas of the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours, as well as the terrorist drone attack on the Jenin camp in the West Bank, the spokesperson strongly condemned the war crimes as a continuation of the genocide of the Palestinian people.
The spokesperson also highlighted the aggravated crimes by the occupying forces and the terrorist actions of extremist Zionist settlers against the Palestinian people and Islamic sanctities in the West Bank and Holy Al-Quds, emphasizing the need to maintain and boost cohesion and unity among various Palestinian groups and avoid any discord and division among Palestinians to confront the occupying regime.
Baqaei also referred to the duties and responsibilities of the UN Security Council to protect international peace and security, and recalled the emergency meeting of the council to discuss the situation in Palestine next week.
He emphasized that the global and regional public opinion expects the Security Council to take decisive and effective measures to stop the genocide by the Zionist regime, within the framework of its inherent and legal duties according to the United Nations Charter.
By adopting effective measures, the Security Council should implement the rulings of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in this regard and the indictment of the International Criminal Court (ICC) against the heads of the apartheid regime, provide the necessary and practical grounds to end the impunity of the regime for committing heinous international crimes, Baqaei stressed
