FM Araghchi meets with new head of WFP office in Iran

Maysaa Alghribawy the newly appointed head of the World Food Program (WFP) office in Iran met with Irans Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi at the start of her mission in the Islamic Republic of Iran to present her credentials.

Maysaa Alghribawy, the newly appointed head of the World Food Program (WFP) office in Iran, met with Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi at the start of her mission in the Islamic Republic of Iran to present her credentials. 

During the meeting, Alghribawy provided an overview of the humanitarian organization’s initiatives in the field of food security, as well as the challenges and obstacles faced by WFP in the region.
She called for continued engagement and collaboration between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the WFP to facilitate the organization’s mandate in Iran and the broader region. 

Alghribawy also expressed gratitude to the Islamic Republic of Iran for hosting millions of Afghan nationals, including migrants and refugees, and reaffirmed the WFP’s commitment to supporting Iran as one of the largest host countries for refugees. 

Araghchi, for his part, extended his best wishes to Alghribawy in her new role and reaffirmed Iran’s continued approach of cooperating with specialized UN bodies, including the World Food Program. 

Araghchi further emphasized that addressing the humanitarian crisis, particularly the situation of refugees and migrants in West Asia, requires comprehensive regional and international collaboration, especially on the part of European countries.
