Iran acting FM D-8 chief meet call for closer cooperation

Isiaka Abdulqadir Imam Secretary General of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation who is in Tehran to attend the 19th meeting of the foreign ministers of the Asian Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) member states met with Iran’s Acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri on the sidelines of the forum.

  

Isiaka Abdulqadir Imam, Secretary General of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, who is in Tehran to attend the 19th meeting of the foreign ministers of the Asian Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) member states, met with Iran’s Acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri on the sidelines of the forum.

 

The interim Iranian foreign minister said the D-8 needs to play an active and innovative role in various economic and commercial fields in order to fulfill the interests of the member states.

 

Bagheri highlighted the need to promote the constructive and synergistic communication and interaction between the ACD and other independent mechanisms and organizations with a multilateral approach, such as BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).

 

He further called for more mobility and dynamism on the part of the D-8 secretary general and the secretariat of the organization for consultations and synergy among the member states in order to achieve the organization’s goals and materialize its plans.

 

He said the recently-held meeting of D-8 foreign ministers in Istanbul in which the Islamic Republic of Iran had an active participation, with a focus on the ongoing incidents in Palestine and slamming the Zionist regime’s crimes against the defenseless people in Gaza, indicates the strong determination of the organization’s member states and its high capacity to play a role in the important issues affecting the world as well as the Islamic world.

 

For his part, Abdulqadir Imam appreciated Iran’s active role and its efforts in the D-8 and the ACD and voiced optimism that the meeting in Tehran will bear fruits and fulfill the interests of the member states.

 

He also elaborated on the plans on the D-8’s agenda to follow up, especially economic and financial ones, and appreciated Iran’s readiness to closely cooperate and interact with the organization’s secretariat
