Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani met and held talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Tuesday on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

During the meeting, Araghchi took a swipe at the Zionist regime’s aggression against Lebanon and warned that the region is on the verge of a widespread war.

He stated that if the US and other allies of the Zionist regime do not stop the regime’s aggression, they will be held accountable for the repercussions.

The Iranian foreign minister also echoed growing calls by Italy and other countries for an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon.

He said the Zionist regime’s supporters are responsible to force the regime into stopping its brutal raids, which has resulted in the martyrdom of hundreds of people, including dozens of children.

Meanwhile, Araghchi underlined that the Zionist regime is desperate and has failed to achieve any of its goals in Gaza, despite about a year of savage massacre.

He stated that the regime should not be allowed to spread the war to the entire region as a leeway to save itself from the desperation.

For his part, the Italian foreign minister raised the alarm over the deteriorating situation in southern Lebanon, stressing that diplomatic efforts are needed to prevent war and establish a ceasefire.
