Iran, Hungry FMs hold consultations in New York

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has met with Hungary's Foreign and Trade Minister Peter Siarto at his residence and on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly summit in New York.

While voicing pleasure with the meeting, Amirabdollahian said he was satisfied with the arrangements afoot to hold a joint economic commission with Hungary in the near future. He then described this as an important step toward boosting constructive cooperation between the two countries in economic and commercial fields.

Amirabdollahian said Iran and Hungary need to finalize a roadmap for their future ties.

He then pointed out that we have a positive assessment of the cooperation between Iranian and Hungarian companies, especially in the field of energy.

Amirabdollahian noted that given the existing capacities of the two countries, Iran and Hungary can have stronger cooperation and the upcoming meeting of their joint economic commission will provide a good opportunity for this purpose.

The Iranian foreign minister also extended greetings from President Raisi to Hungary's president through the country’s top diplomat and hailed Budapest's independent stance regarding international issues including its strong and clear condemnation of the burning of the Quran.

Amirabdollahian reaffirmed Iran's opposition to the war in Ukraine and outlined Iran's principled policy in this regard.

The Hungarian trade and foreign minister for his part said he was pleased to meet Amirabdollabian and expressed pleasure as well with the growing trend of cooperation between the two countries in different areas. He said Hungary is ready to hold a session of the economic cooperation commission of the two countries and to sign bilateral agreements aimed at facilitating bilateral cooperation.

Sarto said he was ready to welcome Amirabdollahian in Budapest.

He further described the progress in ties between Iran and Saudi Arabia as encouraging and voiced pleasure with the prisoner swap between Iran and the US.
