Chairman of The Elders meets with Irans Foreign Minister

During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on international trends, existing challenges in international relations, threats to global peace and security, and ways to address these dangers and challenges.

Referring to the main philosophy behind the establishment of the United Nations, namely respect for the national sovereignty of countries and preventing war and the use of force in relations among states, the Foreign Minister said restoring confidence in the Organization requires member states, particularly the permanent members of the Security Council, to adhere to the principles of the UN Charter.

The Foreign Minister elaborated on developments over the past two years concerning Iran’s nuclear issue, describing the US and Israeli regime’s military aggression against Iran in the midst of negotiations as a flagrant violation of international peace and security. He stressed the responsibility of the United Nations and all countries to explicitly oppose flagrant violations of international law, as well as the crimes committed by the United States and Israel against Iran.

The Foreign Minister stressed that the insecurity in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz has resulted from the unlawful and interventionist actions of the United States and the Israeli regime, and that the international community should hold them accountable for all the resulting humanitarian, security and economic consequences.

The Chairman of The Elders, for his part, underscored the importance of the rule of law and all countries’ adherence, particularly that of major powers, to the UN Charter and international law. He condemned the unlawful use of force and aggression against countries and stressed the need for all countries to pay greater attention to the UN Charter.
