Iran Pakistan FMs discuss bilateral ties regional developments in New York
Seyed Abbas Araghchi Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran who has traveled to New York to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly met with Mohammad Ishaq Dar Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan on Wednesday evening as part of his consultations with countries participating in the session. The two sides discussed and exchanged views on bilateral relations and the most important regional and international developments.
Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, who has traveled to New York to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, met with Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan, on Wednesday evening as part of his consultations with countries participating in the session. The two sides discussed and exchanged views on bilateral relations and the most important regional and international developments.
The foreign ministers of Iran and Pakistan reviewed the latest developments in bilateral relations and reaffirmed the two countries’ determination to pursue the implementation of their agreements and further expand relations within the framework of mutual interests.
The Iranian Foreign Minister expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s constructive efforts as a mediator in the negotiations with the United States, saying that the repeated breaches of commitments by the United States had undermined the position of the mediating institution. He stressed that the US violation of the Islamabad understanding had resulted in heightened insecurity and tensions in the region, and that the United States is responsible for the continuation of the consequences of this situation.
Araghchi briefed his Pakistani counterpart on the latest status of the talks and bilateral understanding between Iran and Oman regarding the determination of an appropriate route for the safe passage of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, as well as the interactions with the United States through Qatar.
Araghchi also, referring to the continuation of the genocide against Palestinians and the ever-expanding occupation by the Israeli regime in the occupied Palestinian territories, called for serious action by Islamic countries and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to assist the Palestinian people and counter the crimes of the Israeli regime.
The Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, for his part, stressed his country’s particular commitment to continuing its good offices, together with other countries in the region, to help establish peace and stability in the region.
