Following the unreasonable decision by Germany’s Foreign Minister to close the consulates of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Germany, Hans Peter Jugel, the German Embassy’s Chargé d’Affaires in Tehran, was summoned by the Director for Division One of Western Europe at Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where Iran’s strong protest was conveyed.

During the meeting, the Director for Division One of Western Europe denounced Germany’s unjustified and detrimental approach towards the Iranian people, including Iranian residents in Germany, and highlighted the following points:

  1. The German government’s decision to suspend the operations of the Iranian consulates in Frankfurt, Hamburg, and Munich is unjustified and without reason. The primary function of these consulates is to provide essential consular services to Iranians residing in Germany and protect their interests in the host country. Germany’s decision to close these centers deliberately deprives Iranians of access to consular services, creating unnecessary hardship for Iranian citizens in Germany and infringing upon their fundamental rights. This move also severs one of the longest-standing channels of communication between the peoples of Iran and Germany.

  1. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran considers the statement by Germany’s Foreign Minister to be offensive, interventionist, unprofessional, and lacking in courtesy, without any legal basis or value. It also emphasizes that Germany’s confrontational and unconstructive stance is a significant miscalculation, for which the German government will bear responsibility.

  1. The Islamic Republic of Iran reminds Germany of international law principles, including respect for national sovereignty, the prohibition against interference in the domestic affairs of other countries, respect for their national judicial competencies, and the commitment of all states to prevent and combat terrorism. It condemns Germany’s disregard for these international principles and denounces any support for terrorism and the killing of innocent people, including under the guise of protecting citizens.

The German Chargé d’Affaires stated that he would relay the message to his government.
