The two top diplomats reviewed the latest developments in bilateral relations in various political, economic and security fields, and explored ways of strengthening cooperation and fully implementing bilateral agreements between the two countries. Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, who has traveled to Damascus to consult with Syrian government officials over bilateral relations and regional developments, held talks with his Syrian counterpart Bassam al-Sabbaq on Saturday morning. Araghchi and Sabbaq also discussed the latest developments in the region, including the dire humanitarian situation caused by the Israeli regime’s continued genocide against Palestinians and its repeated acts of aggression against Lebanon. They stressed the need to mobilize all diplomatic capacities to draw the attention of the international community to these tragedies and to immediately stop the Zionist enemy's war-mongering. The Syrian foreign minister also underlined the importance of increased coordination between the two countries at the level of international organizations to deal with unilateralism and trends that are against the rule of law and violate international law. Sabbagh emphasized the need to use the capacity of the group of like-minded nations to achieve this goal. Araghchi also strongly criticized the inaction of the UN Security Council regarding the illegal acts and crimes of the Zionist regime due to the full support of the US and the UK for this regime and their obstruction of any meaningful decision by the top UN body. He described as important, the recent joint statement of ten non-permanent members of the UN Security Council, demanding an immediate halt to the military aggression by the Zionist regime. The Iranian foreign minister called for stepping up diplomatic and political efforts by the Muslim and Arab countries in the region to force the supporters of the Zionist regime into stopping the Israeli regime’s crimes. Araghchi and Sabbaq decided that diplomatic consultations and coordination continue to this end through the permanent missions of both sides in New York and Geneva.
