Given the importance of neighbors in the foreign policy of our country and in order to strengthen the policy of neighborliness of the 13th administration, shortly after hosting the Saudi foreign minister and the fruitful talks in Tehran, I headed for the 4 countries of Qatar, Oman, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates in the south of the Persian Gulf. Negotiation with the high-ranking officials and my counterparts in these countries were highly positive and constructive and was promising for all countries in both the north and south of the strategic region of the Persian Gulf. The talks also heralded a “better, safer and more prosperous future” for the people among whom the bonds of friendship, compassion and kinship are so deep and strong.
The Islamic Republic of Iran believes that putting in place a joint mechanism for dialog and cooperation with the participation of all littoral states of the strategic region of the Persian Gulf is necessary and fruitful more than ever before. To this end, while welcoming the initiative of the UN secretary general to hold a meeting of the top diplomats of regional countries in New York, we will put forth the idea of forming a “forum of dialog and cooperation” with the presence of all the countries in the north and south of the Persian Gulf and we will also give the details in writing in the near future to all our southern neighbors.
A better, safer and more prosperous future is the common right of all our nations and the Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to double its efforts for this purpose.
