Winston Peters, New Zealand's Minister of Foreign Affairs, held a telephone conversation with Seyed Abbas Araghchi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, during which they discussed bilateral relations as well as regional and international developments.

Iran's Foreign Minister, referring to the consequences of the US and Israeli regime's military aggression against Iran for maritime security in the region and beyond, stressed that responsibility for the current situation in the Strait of Hormuz lies directly and exclusively with the aggressors, and that the international community must hold the two regimes accountable for their flagrant violation of the UN Charter and their military aggression against an independent member state of the United Nations.

New Zealand's Foreign Minister, expressing support for diplomatic efforts, particularly the Islamabad negotiation process, voiced hope that the security and shipping situation in the region would return to stability as swiftly as possible.
