Iran FM UN chief hold phone conversation on regional developments
..
Iran's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, spoke on the phone with Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, on Monday night. They discussed the latest regional developments, the ongoing military aggression by the United States and the Zionist regime against Iran, as well as the situation in Lebanon.
Denouncing the US-Israeli military aggression as a brazen violation of international law and the UN Charter, the Iranian foreign minister stressed that the UN and its secretary-general have a statutory obligation to condemn the aggression categorically and unequivocally and to hold the aggressors accountable in accordance with Chapter 7 of the UN Charter.
Araghchi also called on the international community to take into account the root cause of insecurity imposed on the region and the Strait of Hormuz, namely the US-Israeli military aggression.
He explained that the situation surrounding the Hormuz Strait may not be addressed without considering the general circumstances in the region, noting that disruption to navigation in the strait is caused by the US-Israeli war of aggression.
All countries and international institutions, concerned about peace and security, must condemn the US and Israeli crimes responsibly and call for a halt to the military aggression against Iran, Araghchi stated.
He further condemned the Zionist regime’s brutal attacks against Lebanon that have claimed hundreds of lives, warning that inaction and indifference to the Israeli law-breaking crimes in occupied Palestine and other regional countries will only expand the scope of Israeli aggression and aggravate insecurity in the region and world.
For his part, Guterres expressed his views about conditions in the Persian Gulf region, the Middle East, and maritime security.
