Iranian FM Seyed Abbas Araghchis remarks after attending a meeting of parliaments National Security and Foreign Policy Commission

.

Today’s agenda included a review and assessment of current international developments, as well as issues related to US acts of aggression and the illegal and unlawful conduct of the US toward the rest of the world.

When Trump speaks of peace through strength, he is in fact speaking of the law of the jungle and suggests whoever possesses greater force can do whatever they wish. This comes despite the fact that there have been collective efforts to achieve peace through diplomacy and dialogue. Such an approach amounts to dismantling all the achievements of the international community over the past 80 years since World War II, during which efforts were made to structure the international system on the basis of law and international legal norms. This represents a new development and has led nearly all countries, as well as the so-called experts of international relations, to view it as a serious problem.

At today’s meeting with members of parliament, the latest situation in Venezuela and recent developments in that country were also reviewed. The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Venezuela remains operational, and our ambassador and colleagues there are actively carrying out their duties. Accordingly, the situation is being continuously monitored, and reports are being provided on the status of Iranian nationals in that country. Their situation is completely satisfactory, no problems have been reported, and Iran is prepared for any possible scenario.

In addition, extensive and constructive discussions were held on the issue of economic diplomacy and how foreign policy can contribute to meeting Iran's needs. The capacities of neighboring countries and the manner of benefiting from them were also addressed.

The issue of sanctions, the latest status of this matter, and the paths that should be pursued to remove unjust restrictions were likewise discussed in detail.

Enhanced cooperation between the Foreign Ministry and parliament's National Security Commission was another subject of discussion. In this context, given that the country is entering the season of drafting next year’s budget, the budget of the Foreign Ministry was also addressed.
