The Islamic Republic of Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, met and held talks with the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Rosemary DiCarlo, at the UN headquarters in New York.

During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on the acts of aggression by the Zionist regime and the United States against the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as issues related to UN Security Council Resolution 2231 and its implementation, particularly the role of the UN Secretariat in safeguarding the mechanisms outlined in the resolution and preventing any political misuse of it.

Referring to repeated reports by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Gharibabadi stressed that not a single word in these reports indicates any deviation in Iran’s nuclear program.

He rejected the baseless and repetitive claims made by the Zionist regime over the past three decades regarding Iran’s alleged pursuit of nuclear weapons, emphasizing that the Islamic Republic of Iran, based on religious and jurisprudential principles, has never sought weapons of mass destruction. He noted  that such accusations are made by the Zionist regime that is not a party to any disarmament treaties and is equipped with all types of such weapons.

Gharibabadi also criticized the double standards often seen in the approach of international institutions and highlighted the need for the United Nations to play an effective and impartial role in addressing the clear acts of aggression committed by the Zionist regime and the US against Iran.

He stated, “What nations expect from the UN Secretary-General is to take a clear and explicit stance in condemning such crimes, not merely to express concern or call for restraint.”

He expressed hope that future reports and statements from the UN Secretariat, as well as discussions in upcoming meetings, would seriously reflect these realities and concerns.

DiCarlo, for her part, expressed hope regarding the future of the talks between Iran and other parties and reaffirmed the UN’s support for the continuation of diplomatic efforts. She added that despite existing challenges, the United Nations still considers diplomacy the only viable solution for overcoming crises.

The meeting also included discussions and exchanges on the latest developments in Afghanistan and Yemen.
