Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, who has traveled to Moscow for talks with senior Russian officials, met on Monday morning with Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed the latest developments following the military aggression by the Zionist regime and the US against Iran.
The Iranian foreign minister, outlining the scope of the aggressive attacks by the Zionist regime and the US on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities, residential areas, public infrastructure, and military bases, emphasized the urgent need for decisive action by the United Nations and the Security Council to confront this breach of peace and the aggressive acts committed by the US and Israel.
Araghchi described the actions of the US and the Zionist regime as an unprecedented blow to the UN Charter, international law, and the non-proliferation regime.
He stressed that it is the responsibility of all UN member states to safeguard international legal norms and rules.
He also highlighted the importance of Iran-Russia relations and, while expressing gratitude for Russia’s responsible positions—particularly at the level of the UN Security Council—stressed the importance of enhanced consultations to confront illegality and unilateralism and to preserve regional and global peace and security.
Araghchi noted that Russia has been a partner and supporter in Iran’s nuclear program, having built the Bushehr nuclear power plant and consistently participated in nuclear negotiations.
Russian President Putin, in turn, recalling Russia’s position on the Israeli and US aggression against Iran and its stance in the UN Security Council, stated that the unprovoked attack on Iran has no basis or justification.
Referring to the long-standing and positive relations between Moscow and Tehran, Putin emphasized Russia’s diplomatic efforts, including his recent phone call with Iranian President Pezeshkian, to support the Iranian people and help find a solution to overcome the current situation.
