Iranian Italian FMs hold telephone conversation

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi who traveled to Rome on Friday to attend the fifth round of indirect talks with the United States took a phone call from his Italian counterpart Antonio Tajani who is currently abroad and briefed him on the outcome of the negotiations.

The top Iranian diplomat thanked Tajani for cooperating with Oman to host this round of talks in Rome and described Friday’s negotiations as professional and reasonable.

 

Araghchi voiced hope that by creating a clearer understanding of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s principled positions for the American side, tangible progress could be made in the negotiations.

 

During the telephone conversation, developments in the West Asia region were also discussed, particularly the ongoing genocide in the occupied Palestinian territories with both foreign ministers underscoring the urgent need to stop the atrocities of the Zionist regime in Gaza and provide aid to displaced people.

 

The Iranian foreign minister referred to the massacre of more than sixty thousand innocent people in the past two years in Gaza and the complete destruction of the enclave, calling this situation a total catastrophe for humanity. Araghchi criticized the full support of the US and some other Western countries for the Zionist regime and stressed the responsibility of all governments to help end the genocide in Gaza and to promptly send in humanitarian aid.

 

The Italian foreign minister for his part appreciated Iran’s responsible approach to diplomacy and thanked Araghchi for the briefing on the outcome of the 5th round of talks with the US. Tajani also said Italy is ready to keep providing assistance along this path.
