Iran Turkmenistan hold political consultations in Tehran

The periodic political consultations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Turkmenistan were held in Tehran chaired by Irans Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and Turkmenistans Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov.

During the meeting, various aspects of bilateral relations, the development of the ties, regional as well as international cooperation between the two countries were discussed.

Araghchi emphasized the importance Iran places on its historic and friendly relations with Turkmenistan, which are based on shared cultural, historical, and civilizational elements.

He noted the significant and fruitfull negotiations between the two sides within the framework of the periodic political consultations and highlited the satisfaction of other Iranian officials with the discussions held with the Turkmen foreign minister during the visit.

Araghchi underlined the determination of the leaders of both countries as a driving factor to expand ties and cooperation in various economic, commercial, energy, transit, and transportation sectors.

Regarding regional developments, Araghchi called for further talks on regional issues of mutual interest and expressed hope that the consultations would enhance bilateral and multilateral cooperation concerning Central Asia and Afghanistan.

For this part, Meredov congratulated the Iranian government, people, and the foreign minister on the anniversary of the Islamic Revolution's victory and the National Day of the Islamic Republic of Iran and pointed to the magnificent ceremonies held to mark the occasion.

He expressed satisfaction with his meetings and negotiations with the Iranian president and other officials in the past two days and emphasized the importance of continued regular consultations between the two countries as essential for enhancing bilateral ties in all fields.

He pointed out Iran’s President Massoud Pezeshkian’s trip to Ashgabat to attend the commemoration ceremony of Magtymguly Pyragy, as well as the recent phone conversation of the Turkmen national leader with President Pezeshkian and the invitation for him to attend the "Peace and Trust" conference in Turkmenistan.

Meanwhile, in this round of political consultations, the foreign ministers of Iran and Turkmenistan expressed their happiness with the continued mutual support of both countries in international forums and their backing of each other's resolutions and initiatives at the United Nations. They emphasized the continuation and bolstering of this approach.

Both sides also stressed the importance of strengthening relations and cooperation in parliamentary, cultural, tourism, and educational fields, as well as improving people-to-people connections.

The two ministers highlighted the common threats posed by extremist and terrorist groups and stressed the need for increased cooperation between the two countries as well as regional countries to prevent and combat the threats.
