Iran strongly rejects US plan to cleanse own Gaza

The spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Esmail Baqaei, has reacted to recent US officials' stance on possessing Gaza following a proposal to forcibly relocate the people of Gaza to Egypt and Jordan.

Baqaei described the idea as astonishing and in line with the Zionist regime's plan to eradicate Palestine and called on the international community and the United Nations to strongly condemn it.

The foreign ministry spokesman emphasized the responsibility of all governments to help realize the Palestinian people's right to self-determination and to liberate them from the yoke of occupation and apartheid.

He said the recent claim by the US president about the intention to own the Gaza Strip was as an unprecedented assault on the fundamental principles of international law and the UN Charter.

Baqaei stressed, “The people, who have resisted the most severe crimes and aggressions of the occupying regime with all their might for the past 76 years and refused to leave their ancestral land, would undoubtedly not allow the US and the Zionist regime to erase their national and historical identity by other means.”

Baqaei further stated, “The plan to cleanse Gaza and forcibly relocate the Palestinian people to neighboring countries is seen as the continuation of the Zionist regime's targeted plan for the complete eradication of the Palestinian nation.”

He condemned and rejected the plan outright, saying it blatantly contradicts the established principles and rules of international law and human rights.

Supporting the principled stances of many countries and international forums that strongly oppose the US president's announced plan regarding Gaza, the foreign ministry spokesperson called on the UN Security Council, the UN General Assembly, and the UN secretary general to decisively reject it.

Baqaei also pointed out the firm opposition of Islamic countries and the region to the US president's proposed plan to forcibly relocate the people of Gaza to Egypt and Jordan and the possession of Gaza by the US. He emphasized the need for a clear and unified stance by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on this matter.
