Aide to Iranian FM holds talks with Azerbaijani ambassador over bilateral relations

Ali Alizadeh Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Tehran has met with Mojtaba Damirchilou an aide to Iran’s foreign minister and Director General of the Eurasia Department of the Iranian Foreign Ministry.


Ali Alizadeh, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Tehran, has met with Mojtaba Damirchilou, an aide to Iran’s foreign minister and Director General of the Eurasia Department of the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
The meeting happened on Friday, January 24, 2025, at the Foreign Ministry of the Islamic Republic in Tehran.

During the meeting, the two officials discussed the state of bilateral relations and the prospects for expanding cooperation between Tehran and Baku in various fields.

Damirchilou underscored the necessity for both sides to work towards implementing agreements and preserving their mutual relations while referring to the positive developments in bilateral ties.

He noted the commitment of high-ranking officials from both countries to enhance relations based on mutual interests. The aide to Iranian foreign minister said negative moves by certain circles or individuals in Azerbaijan (including a recent unethical act concerning several Iranian students studying in Azerbaijan) as damaging to the relations between Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan. Damirchilou expressed Iran's objection to these behaviors and called for action against those responsible for such negative actions.

The director general of the Eurasia Department at Iran’s Foreign Ministry also highlighted the respect and high status of religious authorities and scholars among the people of both countries, stressing the need for vigilance and decisive action against any acts of disrespect and divisive actions.

The Azerbaijani ambassador to Tehran expressed regret over some unpleasant remarks and actions and promised to convey these concerns to his country's authorities.

In the meeting, both officials described as positive, the growing trend in bilateral relations, especially regarding high-level exchanges and holding a joint economic commission meeting after a three-year hiatus. They also held consultations over ways of strengthening coordination to facilitate and speed up the implementation of programs that are on the agenda of bilateral relations.
