Iran condemns Western use of human rights for political purposes
Baqaei has reacted to the approval of the human rights resolution against the Islamic Republic of Iran at the UN General Assembly saying Canadas move to draft this resolution with the support of some Western countries based on unfounded claims and incorrect generalizations lacks legal validity and is fundamentally rejected.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei has reacted to the approval of the human rights resolution against the Islamic Republic of Iran at the UN General Assembly, saying Canada's move to draft this resolution with the support of some Western countries based on unfounded claims and incorrect generalizations lacks legal validity and is fundamentally rejected.
Baqaei stressed the Islamic Republic of Iran's commitment to preserving and respecting human rights as a legal and religious-moral necessity according to the Iranian Constitution and relevant laws, as well as according to the principles of Islam. He reiterated that Iran spares no effort in this regard.
Baqaei pointed out that the majority of UN member states have expressed their dissatisfaction by giving negative votes or abstaining or being absent from the meeting regarding the abuse of the UN General Assembly and the use of human rights as a tool to make political gains.
He noted that such unjustified actions by certain countries, who have a long history of gross violations of human rights—including military and political support for occupation and genocide in Palestine—do not contribute to improving the state of human rights or respecting it globally.
Baqaei noted that such acts merely diminish the noble concept of human rights and reduce it to a political pressure tool against nations.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman also stressed that those who pushed the anti-Iranian resolution, including the Zionist regime, the US, Britain and Canada, are among the major violators of human rights.
He described the move as a source of shame and urged Canadian officials, who each year take similar actions against Iran, to focus on correcting their own domestic and foreign policies instead of accusing others.
Baqaei called on Canada to put an end to systematic policies aimed at arrogantly eliminating indigenous populations and demanded accountability for complicity in genocide and war crimes by Israel against the Palestinian people.
