Iran FM meets with new ECO Secretary-General

At the outset of his tenure in Tehran as the new Secretary-General of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Asad Majeed Khan met with Seyed Abbas Araghchi Irans Minister of Foreign Affairs to exchange views and consult on ECO’s role in the region and ways to enhance cooperation among member states.

Expressing his pleasure at being in Iran and beginning his role as the new Secretary-General of ECO, Asad Majeed Khan paid tribute to the late Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian.
He extended congratulations to Araghchi, wishing success for the new Iranian government, President, and Foreign Minister.

He also expressed gratitude to the Islamic Republic of Iran for its support of his appointment, providing a report on ECO's activities, including preparations for upcoming high-level meetings of heads of state and foreign ministers.
He emphasized the pivotal and significant role of the Islamic Republic of Iran within ECO and called for the continued support of this key regional organization.

In this meeting, Iran’s Foreign Minister warmly welcomed and congratulated the new Secretary-General of ECO, referring to Majeed Khan's valuable diplomatic experience, and expressed confidence that the goals, programs, and ongoing initiatives of ECO would accelerate under his leadership.

Araghchi also highlighted the vast capacities and resources of ECO member states to strengthen and deepen economic cooperation for the development and progress of the region.
He affirmed that the Islamic Republic of Iran, as the host of the ECO Secretariat and the current chair of the organization, strongly supports ECO's programs and activities, as well as the new Secretary-General, in achieving the organization’s objectives.

It is worth noting that Asad Majeed Khan, a senior Pakistani diplomat, has recently been appointed as the Secretary-General of ECO for a three-year term.
