The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry has denounced the final statement of the 161st meeting of the foreign ministers of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council in Riyadh on Iran as repetitive, unconstructive and fruitless.
Nasser Kanaani dismissed the clause related to the Iranian islands in the Persian Gulf and reiterated that the three Iranian islands of Abu Musa, and the Greater and the Lesser Tunbs are an integral and eternal part of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s territory.
He said, “The Islamic Republic of Iran considers any comments on residential development, the travel of national and military officials to the islands that belong to Iran, as well as the holding military exercises on its territorial borders, as interference in its sovereign affairs and condemns it.”
Meanwhile, the spokesperson blasted the foreign ministers of the council for including Kuwait’s unilateral claim about the Arash Gas Field in the final statement.
He said, “Releasing repeated statements and making unilateral claims has no legal value and does not prove any right for the Kuwaiti side.”
The Foreign Ministry spokesperson further noted that the only logical and fruitful solution regarding the Arash Field is to return to the technical and legal negotiating table and hold bilateral dialogue in order to reach a lasting deal based on good neighborliness and respect for common interests.
Referring to the paragraph on Iran’s nuclear program, the spokesperson said the Islamic Republic of Iran has always adhered to the international laws and obligations, so it considers unfounded statements on its peaceful nuclear program as worthless.
The spokesperson of the Iranian diplomatic service emphasized that security in the region is an integrated and inseparable part and underlined the significance of regional cooperation in order to ensure collective security.
“While opposing the military presence of foreigners in the region, the Islamic Republic of Iran will continue its effective and constructive role in ensuring the security of regional waters and waterways,” he stated.
Citing the council’s congratulatory message in the statement on the election of Massoud Pezeshkian as the president of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the spokesperson emphasized that the new Iranian administration will continue to emphasize on the neighborhood policy as its foreign political priority in line with the strategic approach and fundamental policies of the establishment.
Kanaani added Iran has always considered interaction and cooperation with its neighbors as the solution to the regional problems and always welcomes constructive initiatives on promoting relations and bilateral as well as multilateral cooperation.
The Iranian diplomat, however, noted that that positions like those mentioned above in the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council’s statement are not helpful in the process of regional interaction and advised the council to avoid them.
