Iran’s President Massoud Pezeshkian, in a ceremony on Tuesday evening held to introduce new Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, commemorated the Iranian officials who were martyred in a helicopter crash in May, specially former Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian.

Pezeshkian lauded Amirabdollahian for his services and efforts during his tenure and added solving problems at home and augmenting social capital were among the major deeds fulfilled by the former administration of martyred president Ebrahim Raisi.

He further noted, “If we manage to restore and boost the debilitated social capital by forging unity and cohesion inside (the country), our power to deal with sanctions and external threats will definitely increase.”

The president said the US conspiracies against Iran in the advent of the victory of the Islamic Revolution failed due to the people’s belief in and adherence to the establishment and the Revolution, adding, “We need to return to the same path and keep the people on the stage.”

Pezeshkian said prioritizing the enhancement of interactions with neighboring countries is a right and principled policy and underscored the role of Iranian ambassadors in this area.

He stated, “I believe if we can establish amicable and reasonable ties with these neighboring countries, a major part of the pressure of sanctions will be neutralized and the shortage of many goods needed in the country will be tackled on the condition that we know what we are going to do.”

Elsewhere, the president also said the lack of a road map for the executive directors of the country has been the root cause of many problems, explaining, “We choose governors for the provinces of the country, but when we have not drawn a road map for them, the governors do not know to which point they should lead the provinces. As a result, they manage according to their own taste and opinion.”

The Iranian president further stressed, “We are facing the same issue regarding the neighboring countries and we need to draw a road map.”

Pezeshkian went on to say expanding communication with other countries will lead to progress in Iran, elaborating, “If we want to grow and not fall behind in the world, we need to institutionalize every innovation and creativity that happens in the country, not repeat the failed experiences, and implement the successful experiences in our country, which is one of the important tasks of our embassies.”

The president further emphasized that his administration is determined to step up interactions with the world based on the three principles of honor, wisdom, and expediency stipulated in the Vision Document and the policies declared by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

He said, “Today, European countries have opened their borders to each other and they have a common currency, but Islamic states are building walls among themselves, while according to the teachings of the Qur’an and the Prophet of Islam, all Muslims are brothers.”

Pezeshkian also said, “All Qur’anic messages and our religious teachings are transparent, clear and are not open to interpretation, but unfortunately they are not followed and our diplomats are tasked with coming up with solutions for these issues.”

The president stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always sought to avoid war and establish peace, but added it will never cave in to oppression and will be hostile to oppressors.

“With what logic and based on which law, the US gives the Zionist regime the license to bomb the oppressed and defenseless women and children in Gaza?” The president asked and added, “Everyone who sees these savage crimes feels heartbroken, but the so-called defenders of human rights and democracy help these criminals. I feel embarrassed that they call themselves human beings while they back the Zionists.”

The president said efforts to improve international interactions, boosting and deepening ties with other countries, especially the neighbors, and exchanging scientific experiences with the world are among the foreign ministry’s important tasks during his term in office.

He added, “We hope that the Almighty God will make us successful in this direction so we will not be embarrassed in front of the people. The people have pinned their hopes on us and we have to practically show that we are honest servants for them. If we do not succeed in something, we should explain the reasons to the people.”

Concluding his remarks, the president expressed gratitude to Ali Bagheri Kani who served as the acting foreign minister and wished success for Araghchi in his important and onerous responsibility to steer the Islamic Republic of Iran’s diplomatic service.
