Tehran Baku want stronger ties based on numerous commonalities

The Republic of Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Samir Sharifov, met and held talks with Iran’s Acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri.

The Iranian acting foreign minister said the numerous commonalities between the two countries are a valuable asset for the promotion of ties in all fields, reiterating that stepping up ties with the Republic of Azerbaijan is a top priority in the Islamic Republic of Iran’s foreign policy.

Bagheri said the deals the martyred Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi struck with his Azerbaijani counterpart in their last meeting were very crucial, and stressed that they should immediately be implemented.

He also noted that the joint economic projects are strategically important for both countries and the region.

The Iranian caretaker foreign minister also highlighted the importance of utilizing such mechanisms as joint economic and consular commissions as well as the private sector.

Meanwhile, the Republic of Azerbaijan’s deputy foreign minister once again offered his condolences over the tragic and unbelievable martyrdom of the Iranian president and foreign minister.

Sharifov said the last meeting between the presidents of the two countries and the inauguration of the Khodaafrin and Qiz Qalasi dams were a symbol of goodwill between the two countries and a factor for the convergence of the two nations.

He also emphasized that other joint projects, such as transportation projects between the two countries should be implemented and completed.

The Azerbaijani senior diplomat said the deals signed by the presidents of the two countries are a basis for the future moves by both countries. He stated that all possible obstacles in bilateral ties should be tackled and the ties between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Iran should serve as a model for neighborly relations.
