Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian met on Thursday with his Maltese counterpart Ian Borg, whose country holds the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council (UNSC), to discuss the latest developments in the region and the world and exchange views on the two countries’ bilateral ties.

During the meeting held at the UN premises in New York, Amirabdollahian shed light on Iranian armed forces’ recent “decisive response” to the Zionist regime and noted, “The Islamic Republic of Iran’s military move against the Zionist regime’s crimes was within the framework of legitimate defense and complies with International law.”

The top Iranian diplomat warned Israel against any adventurism, stressing that the Islamic Republic of Iran “will retaliate any miscalculations by the Zionist regime much stronger.”

Amirabdollahian commended the Maltese government, as the UNSC rotating president, for its constructive role and efforts to stop the genocide by the Zionist regime in Gaza.

He underlined that the main factor that can bring about stability and security in the region is the cessation of the Zionist regime’s crimes in Gaza and the West Bank and establishing a stable ceasefire.

Meanwhile, the Iranian foreign minister announced Iran’s readiness to step up bilateral ties with Malta at all political, economic and cultural levels, as well as reciprocal visits by the two countries’ officials.

During the meeting, the foreign minister of Malta highlighted the risks involved in the spiral of regional tensions and noted that his country seeks to de-escalate the tension in the region, adding it would do its utmost to help establish peace and security in the region.

Borg also stressed that his country’s relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran should be enhanced in the political, economic and cultural fields.
