Pursuant to his diplomatic meetings in Geneva, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian met with Ms. Elina Maria Valtonen, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Finland.
Amirabdollahian congratulated Ms. Valtonen on holding the presidential election in Finland.
Pointing to Iran's interest in improving ties with Finland to the best level, Amirabdollahian said Tehran is ready to develop a joint road map for this purpose. Amirabdollahian referred to some common opportunities for bilateral ties which are equally profitable for both sides, including cooperation between knowledge-based companies of the two countries and bilateral cooperation in the field of agriculture.
He also welcomed any effort to expand parliamentary cooperation between the two countries and proposed the holding of political consultations at the level of political directors of the foreign ministries of both sides.
He also spoke about the crisis in Gaza and the killing of more than 30,000 Palestinians, 70% of them being women and children, by the Zionist regime.
Amirabdollahian said that unfortunately, due to the politicization of the issue of human rights, some countries that claim to be defenders of human rights have not allowed a fact-finding committee to be formed to probe the horrible atrocities in Gaza.
Ms. Valtonen for her part said she was pleased to meet the Iranian foreign minister and thanked him for extending an invitation to her to visit Iran.
She then welcomed the continuation of dialogue with the Islamic Republic of Iran in areas of mutual interest.
Ms. Valtonen described the alarming humanitarian situation in Gaza as a common concern for both countries and said that Finland believes efforts must continue to prevent a human tragedy.
In the meeting, some bilateral political, economic and consular issues were discussed.
The two top diplomats also welcomed the continuation of bilateral talks.
