UN special envoy for Syria meets Iranian FM says Gaza genocide affects entire region
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian held a meeting with the United Nations’ Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen in New York on the sidelines of a UN Security Council meeting on Palestine.
Amirabdollahian expressed gratitude to and support for the special envoy and the UN for their efforts to help restore stability in Syria.
The Iranian foreign minister called on the international community to show serious determination and urged the regional countries and international institutions to collaborate for a decisive and effective fight against the ominous phenomenon of terrorism.
Amirabdollahian also demanded serious efforts on the part of the international community to stop the Zionist regime’s aggression against Syria and the violation of its territorial integrity.
Meanwhile, Pedersen appreciated the Islamic Republic of Iran’s constructive and effective role in fighting terrorism and helping to resolve the political crisis in Syria, including through the Astana process.
He stressed Iran should continue to play a role in any political initiative to that end.
The UN special envoy for the Syrian Arab Republic further said that the continuation of the ongoing crisis in Gaza and other parts of Palestine has left a negative and destructive effect on the peace processes in the region.
