Iranian and Armenian FMs hold consultations
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian who is visiting Yerevan for consultations over bilateral ties and developments in the Caucasus has held talks with his Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyian.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian who is visiting Yerevan for consultations over bilateral ties and developments in the Caucasus has held talks with his Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyian.
The two top diplomats discussed the latest state of bilateral relations and explored ways of expanding the ties.
Amirabdollahian pointed to the improvement of bilateral relations over the past two years, underlining the need to speed up the implementation of economic agreements, including transportation, trade, energy deals as well as cooperation in scientific and cultural areas and in new technologies.
He also spoke about the strategic importance of the Caucasus in the policy of neighborliness in the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran and reaffirmed Tehran’s continued support for strengthening convergence and cooperation between regional countries.
While stressing the necessity of establishing lasting peace in the region, Amirabdollahian said inclusive peace can only be achieved through regional dialogue and platforms such as the 3+3 mechanism.
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan also underscored the importance of relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran and said it’s necessary to implement agreements between Tehran and Yerevan as soon as possible, especially the Persian Gulf-Black Sea corridor and energy exchange deals.
Mirzoyian further emphasized the importance of establishing peace and stability in the region, describing cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Armenia as constructive and beneficial to the region.
On Tuesday, Amirabdollhian also had a telephone consultations with his Azerbaijani and Russian counterparts regarding the latest developments in the Caucasus.
