The first meeting of the Iran-China-Saudi Arabia Joint Committee wrapped up on December 15 2023 in the Chinese capital Beijing

Iran and Saudi Arabia declared their full commitment to the agreement.

  

A member of the political bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China as well as the committee’s chief of staff along with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi sat down with heads of Iranian and Saudi delegations. The meeting chaired by Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Deng Li, was held to follow up on the Beijing Agreement and was attended by Deputy Iranian Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Ali Bagheri, who leads the Iranian team, and Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister El Khereiji, the head of the Saudi delegation.

 

In the meeting, the positive results of Iranian-Saudi relations, the issue of reopening of the Iranian and Saudi embassies in the two countries’ respective capitals, and mutual meetings and visits by the two sides’ foreign ministers were reviewed in light of the Beijing Agreement signed between the two countries back in March mediated by China.

Meanwhile, Tehran and Riyadh praised China’s key role in that regard and hailed Beijing for hosting the meeting.

 

Iran and Saudi Arabia declared their full commitment to the agreement.

 

The Chinese side also said it was ready to continue its constructive role and to support the Iranian and Saudi sides to take further steps toward cementing reciprocal ties.

 

The three sides also discussed ways of boosting trilateral cooperation on different fronts.

 

The three sides voiced concern over the continuation of the current situation of Gaza, describing it as a threat to the peace at regional and international levels.

They also called for an immediate stop to the military campaign in Gaza and sending humanitarian aid to the Gaza-based civilians.  The three sides also expressed deep concern over the forced displacement of Palestinians, saying any measure regarding the future of Palestine should reflect the will of the Palestinian nation. 

They also supported Palestinian people’s right to determine their own fate and establish an independent state.

The three sides also emphasized on the continuation of the meeting of the trilateral committee.

It was decided that the body convene its next meeting in June 2024 in Saudi Arabia following a generous invitation by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
