Iran, Brazil foreign ministers eye broader ties under BRICS
Iran’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Hossein Amirabdollahian held talks with the Foreign Minister of Brazil, Mauro Vieira, on Friday amid the flurry of diplomatic meetings on the fringes of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session in New York.

During the meeting, Amirabdollahian thanked Brazil for supporting the Islamic Republic of Iran’s membership in BRICS.
He pointed out that the meeting between the Iranian and Brazilian presidents in Johannesburg was “very good” and said Iran is ready to develop the relations between the two countries within the framework of bilateral relations and BRICS.
The Iranian foreign minister also touched on Brazil’s special place in the Islamic Republic of Iran’s foreign policy and noted this year was 120th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, saying the occasion has to be marked with special programs.
Amirabdollahian invited his Brazilian counterpart to travel to Iran, which he welcomed and said it needs to be planned at a right time.
Meanwhile, the Brazilian foreign minister said the relations with Iran were important for his country, adding Brazil is ready to enhance its bilateral ties in the public and private sectors.
Both sides stressed the need to speed up holding the meeting of the joint commission for economic cooperation between the two countries and supporting cooperation between the private sectors of the two states.
