Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdolalhian and Spain’s top diplomat José Manuel Albares on Thursday afternoon held talks during a telephone conversation initiated by the Spanish side about the most pressing issues of mutual interest between the two countries.

During the conversation, Amirabdolalhian criticized the wrong move by Western governments to revoke Iran’s membership in the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, describing it as a sign of efforts to squander an opportunity for dialog.

He said Iran is one of the strongest democracies of the region and “it’s unacceptable to us if Europe wants to look at things unilaterally and continue its meddling activities."

The Iranian foreign minister also congratulated the government and people of Spain on the arrival of the New Year and expressed hope that year 2023 will be one of peace and stability for all people across the world and “we will witness expansion of ties between Tehran and Madrid in different areas more than ever before."

Spain’s Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares also expressed his views about issues of mutual interest and congratulated the people and government of Iran, especially Christians, on the arrival of the New Year.

Albares also underlined that Spain is determined to continue talks and expand relations with Iran.
