FM Zarif Raps EU3’s Non-Compliance with JCPOA in Letter to Borrell

Foreign Minister of Iran Mohammad Javad Zarif has sent a letter to EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell to denounce the EU3’s non-compliance with the 2015 nuclear agreement after the three European states drafted an anti-Iranian resolution at the IAEA Board of Governors, Foreign Ministry spokesperson has announced.


Spokesperson of Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs made clear that following the irresponsible and illegal action of the three European States (Germany, France and the United Kingdom) in submitting of the draft resolution to the IAEA Board of Governors, as well as their continued non-compliance with international obligations arising from the JCPOA and the decisions of Joint Commission of JCPOA (in particular Statements of the Ministerial Sessions of the Joint Commission of the JCPOA on 6 July 2018 and 24 September 2018) -two and a half years after withdrawal of the United States from the JCPOA- once again the Islamic Republic of Iran on 3 July 2020 referred to the Joint Commission some E3 significant non-performance cases according to the Paragraph 36 of the JCPOA to settle aforementioned issues. 


Seyyed Abbas Mousavi expressed the Islamic Republic of Iran underlines that any intervention in the ongoing safeguards cooperation between Iran and the IAEA is in contravention of the provisions of JCPOA and could negatively affect the existing safeguards cooperation.


The Islamic Republic of Iran, while reaffirming its readiness to fully implement and preserve the provisions of the JCPOA by all participants to the agreement, especially the need for enjoying of the economic effects of the sanctions lifting regime as envisaged in the JCPOA, is determined to take the necessary and appropriate measures against any extravagance and irresponsible action and strongly urges E3, instead of moving in the direction of the policy of maximum pressure of the United States, to fully comply with their obligations, in order to provide the ground for preservation and full implementation of the JCPOA.
