Esmail Baghaei, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, outlined the Islamic Republic of Iran’s positions on the Saudi Arabia-Yemen conflict in remarks to reporters, emphasizing Iran’s principled stance that dialogue between Saudi Arabia and Yemen is necessary to resolve issues through diplomacy. The spokesperson stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always been ready to employ its good offices to help bring an end to the conflict and remains prepared to use all its capacities for this purpose, should the parties request it.Referring to the history of the conflict between Saudi Arabia and Yemen, Baghaei noted that developments over the past 12 years had demonstrated that foreign intervention, a military approach, and a blockade were not solutions to Yemen’s problems. He said the Yemeni people had endured more than a decade of the country’s air and sea blockade, patiently bearing the consequences of this unjust blockade, which had been designed by actors from outside the region, particularly the United States and Britain. He added that regional countries and the Islamic world were expected to make serious efforts to bring this situation to an end.Commenting on a claim by a Saudi Foreign Ministry official that Iran had played a role in encouraging Yemenis to attack Saudi Arabia, the spokesperson said the Islamic Republic of Iran rejected any claim that it had been involved in Yemeni operations. He emphasized that resolving the Yemen issue required respect for the country’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity, an end to any interference in its internal affairs, and, most importantly, the lifting of the country’s air and sea blockade.Baghaei stressed that Yemen’s armed forces acted based on their own interests and assessments, adding that such claims were not credible to those familiar with relations between Iran and its friends. Nevertheless, he noted that Iran did not consider an escalation of tensions to be in the interests of any party.
