Jean Arnault, the UN Special Envoy for Lebanon, who has traveled to Tehran for consultations with Iranian officials, met with Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Tuesday morning. During the meeting, Arnault presented his assessment of the latest developments and the situation in Lebanon amid the continuation of the Israeli occupation, as well as efforts undertaken to consolidate the ceasefire and bring the war to an end. He expressed hope that, with the continued effective role of Iran and other regional parties, an end to the war and the establishment of lasting peace and security in the region, particularly in Lebanon, would be witnessed. The Foreign Minister, for his part, emphasized the Islamic Republic of Iran’s principled position in support of Lebanon’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty, and called for the strengthening of the United Nations’ efforts and initiatives to halt the aggression and occupation by the Zionist regime in Lebanon. Araghchi also announced Iran’s readiness to continue consultations and cooperation with the United Nations and regional countries to help maintain stability and security in Lebanon. During his visit, the UN Secretary-General’s representative also held separate meetings with Majid Takht-Ravanchi, Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, and Mehdi Shoushtari, Assistant Foreign Minister and Director General for West Asia and North Africa at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during which they held consultations and exchanged views on developments in Lebanon and the region.
