Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, who has traveled to New York to attend the annual session of the United Nations General Assembly, met and held talks with Mohamad Hasan, Foreign Minister of Malaysia, on Saturday morning. The Foreign Minister appreciated Malaysia’s principled positions in condemning the military aggression against Iran and the war crimes committed, stressing Iran’s determination to defend its security and national sovereignty against the aggressive and interventionist actions of the United States. The Iranian Foreign Minister outlined developments related to the US-Israeli imposed war against Iran, the United States’ breach of its commitments, and its economic terrorism against the Iranian people, stressing that developing countries should work to safeguard their common interests and counter the United States’ lawlessness and destructive unilateralism. The Iranian Foreign Minister also briefed his Malaysian counterpart on the latest developments concerning the Strait of Hormuz, including the status of the bilateral Iran-Oman understanding on establishing safe shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that the sole factor behind the continued insecurity in the waterway is the aggressive actions of the United States. The two sides discussed the need for greater cooperation and coordination among Islamic countries, including within the framework of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, to counter the genocide and crimes committed by the Zionist regime in the occupied Palestinian territories and other countries of the region. The two sides also stressed the continuation of consultations and the expansion of bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
